Govt to Link Farmers, Brewers Under ‘Feed the Industry’ Drive — Trade Minister

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has announced new government initiatives to strengthen Ghana’s beverage sector by linking local agriculture directly to manufacturing.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama at the 10th Ghana Beverage Awards in Accra on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the industry’s growth, citing its resilience and economic impact.
“From agriculture to manufacturing, retail, and hospitality, the sector touches every aspect of daily life and offers critical economic benefits,” she said.
“This industry plays a vital role in Ghana’s economic development, creating jobs and supporting livelihoods.”
The event, themed “A Toast to Ten,” marked a decade of achievements in the beverage space while looking ahead to future expansion.
The Minister praised industry leaders for raising standards and urged them to improve the quality of locally produced beverages to strengthen Ghana’s presence on the global market.
Central to the government’s plan is the Feed the Industry initiative, designed to build stronger linkages between local farmers and beverage manufacturers.
The programme will support raw material supply chains while providing crucial backing to both farmers and producers.
She also highlighted the upcoming Agribusiness Policy, which will seek to accelerate growth through value addition and give businesses a strategic framework to expand.
To boost visibility for local brands, the Minister disclosed the revival of the Made-In-Ghana Fair.
“The fair will serve as an important tool for promoting local products and enhancing the image of Ghanaian brands, both locally and internationally,” she maintained.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Global Media Alliance CEO Mr Ernest Boateng urged the sector to embrace emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI).
He encouraged industry players to adopt AI-driven tools to predict market trends and better understand consumer preferences.
“AI has the potential to revolutionise how we operate, from predicting customer needs to improving product quality and operational efficiency,” he noted.
