Sam George Vows To Shut MultiChoice On September 6

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, says MultiChoice Ghana (DSTV) will be shut down on September 6 if the company’s defiance persists.

Speaking at the Digital Africa Summit in Accra, he said the company had failed to comply with the directive of the government to provide critical pricing information requested under the Electronic Communications Act (ECA).

“They have up to the 6th of September. If by then there is no resolution, we will shut down the operations of MultiChoice. No company is more powerful than the collective interest of the Ghanaian people.”

He further affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring fair pricing for Ghanaian consumers to match the improved economic conditions.

Three weeks ago, the ministry announced a statutory fine of GHC 10,000 per day, effective August 15, 2025, on MultiChoice Ghana for failing to provide the data, including a breakdown of bouquet prices, tax components, and comparisons with at least six other African countries.

This information, it said, was requested to support a meaningful engagement on reducing subscription fees for Ghanaian customers.
