Gov’t Condemns Attack on Dagbon FM Presenter

The Ministry of Information has condemned an attack on a radio presenter during a live show on Wednesday evening.

The Dagbon FM presenter identified as Abubakari Sadiq Gariba received death threats during a live show when his attackers pounced on him in the studio on press freedom day.

One of the attackers was identified as the former Northern Regional Deputy Communication Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hardi Pagazaa.

Pagazaa, as soon as he stormed the studio, pounced on and grabbed the presenter’s shirt stock while the other attacker grabbed his right wrist.

The second attacker is heard saying, “Stop talking about him (referring to Pagazaa) else you will die for no reason.”

“What have I done?” the presenter retorts.

Condemnation
The attack has been widely condemned by a section of Ghanaians including the Ministry of Information in a statement dated May 4.

The Ministry in the statement called on the Ghana Police Service and relevant stakeholders to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators.

It sees their action as further a dent to the already abysmal performance of the country when it comes to press freedom which reflects on the global Press freedom index.

“The Ministry contacted the journalist and offered him help,” the statement said.
