OSP Appeals High Court Judgment In Sarfo-Kantanka Bribery Case

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has filed an appeal against the acquittal and discharged Alexander Kwabena Sarfo-Kantanka, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nominee for municipal chief executive for Juaben in the Ashanti Region, in an alleged bribery case.

In a judgement delivered on May 26, 2025, Justice Priscilla Dikro Ofori acquitted and discharged the accused on the 26 counts of bribery.

She ruled among others that there was no direct link between the video and the alleged bribery.

However, the OSP contends that the judgment cannot be supported with regard to the evidence on record and that the trial judge misdirected herself on key issues of law and fact.

“The OSP believes justice was not served and has taken steps to challenge the decision at the appellate level,” he said in a statement.

Sarfo-Kantanka was captured in a video in September 2021 for allegedly demanding a refund of monies he had disbursed to the former after they failed to confirm his nomination.

The OSP initiated an investigation in November 2021 and charged him with 26 counts of corruption in May 2022.

On June 22, 2022, the accused person took a not-guilty plea, and his trial commenced in October.
