GMet Issues Advisory For Harmattan

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (Gmet) has issued an advisory for the dry season cautioning the public to take in adequate water to stay hydrated, use nose masks and be careful with fire.

According to the Agency, dusty dry winds from the Sahel are intensifying and taking over the country which will persist till the end of December.

“This weather condition is anticipated to span into the latter part of the month of December 2023 with dry and hazy weather conditions prevailing over the country.”

It noted that the hazy weather will cause horizontal visibility to deteriorate further as the northern sector of the country’s haziness will range between 500m and 4000m with the southern sector experiencing it within 1500m and 6000m.

Meanwhile, it forecasts a temperature range of 15 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius at dawn into the early hours of the morning over the period.

The GMet has thus urged the public to handle fire cautiously; keep taking enough water; wear masks where necessary; and moisturize the skin to avoid cracks.

It has also advised farmers to resort to windbreaks; prioritise irrigation; and mulch around plants.
