Minority Blamed For Vetting Chaos Probe Suspension

The Chairman of the Committee probing the melee that characterized the vetting of some Ministerial nominees last week, Emmanuel Bedzrah, has clarified the reason behind the abrupt suspension of the work.

According to him, the Minority are to blame.

The seven-member ad hoc Committee started their work sanctioned by the Speaker, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on February 5, 2025; however, the Chairman along the line suspended the sittings.

While announcing the suspension, he said the clerk to Parliament had made the request.

Speaking further to the issue in an interview, he disclosed that the request to suspend the sittings which was attributed to the Speaker was actually not from him.

“Honestly, this whole stoppage came from the Minority side. I can tell you on authority,” he said on Eyewitness News.

He explained that after receiving the request to suspend the sittings on Wednesday- while the Speaker is out of the country- he met with the Clerk and the two leaders, including the Deputy Speakers, at the Speaker’s lobby.

According to him, he was told by the three that the Speaker has given the instruction to suspend the sittings.

“So when I got there, I was told the Speaker had given instruction… They said they spoke to the Speaker, and the Speaker directed that we should since they have apologised, hold on to this. And I said no, this is not the instruction I received from the Speaker.

“Everybody heard the Speaker yesterday that the Clerk should continue with its work, so I called the Speaker, and he said he has not given any instruction that we should stop. So in the chaos, we decided that well, we had already suspended, and the way forward is to allow the Speaker to return and give specific instruction.”
