Ghana’s Former Education Minister Reacts To “Lies” About His Marriage

Bridegroom Prof Dominic Fobih, has chosen to keep his reasons for marrying a woman almost three times younger than him private. However, he has clarified misinformation circulating on social media about his marriage.

The former Education Minister in an interview said negative comments his marriage has attracted came as a result of misinformation.

“The whole report that came out was borne out of ignorance because there are lies in the statement. If the publication is wrong, definitely you will make the wrong comment.”

One of his concerns was reports that his bride is in her 20s.

“Some are saying she is 26, 23, 28, 27 or so. All these are wrong. She is 31 now,” he clarified and added that she is a medical practitioner.

Though Prof Fobih was economical with information during the interview on Starr FM, he divulged he is not married to nine wives as peddled on social media.

“I don’t have nine wives…I have one wife. I just married her. I didn’t have a wife so I’ve married. I don’t have nine wives. Who in Ghana has nine wives? I’m not a thief.”

Asked if he’s been married before, he said, “It’s not important”.

He further sent out a message to the public concerning his decision to choose a woman he is 49 years older than.

“I’m a very strong-willed person and I’m always convinced about what I do, and why I do it. I know why I’m doing this. I didn’t make it for everybody. I made it for myself.”

Prof Fobih and his bride tied the knot over the weekend. Their marriage set social media ablaze with the allegations that the lady was in her 20s and the marriage was his ninth.

Prof Fobih was Minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration and a legislator from January 2001 to January 2017 representing Assin South constituency in the Central region.
