Ghana Evacuates 85 Nationals from Cambodia, Arranges Return for 76 More

The Government of Ghana has facilitated the evacuation of 85 Ghanaian nationals from Cambodia between March and May 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disclosed.
The exercise was coordinated through Ghana’s High Commission in Malaysia, which is concurrently accredited to the Kingdom of Cambodia, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The Ministry said arrangements are also ongoing to facilitate the evacuation of an additional 76 Ghanaian nationals currently resident in Cambodia who have expressed the desire to return home voluntarily.
The update comes amid public concern over a fake circular on social media that falsely claimed African nationals in Cambodia had been ordered to leave by May 31, 2026.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after diplomatic engagements with Cambodian authorities, confirmed the notice was fake and had not been issued by any Cambodian state institution.
Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration has since issued a clarification describing the document as “completely untrue.”
The Ministry reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare and protection of Ghanaians abroad and urged the public to rely on official sources for credible information on the status of Ghanaian nationals overseas.
