Screening of Second Batch of Ghanaian Evacuees Begins in South Africa

The Ghana High Commission in South Africa has announced that screening of the second batch of Ghanaian evacuees has commenced.
In a video update, the Mission said the process started today, May 29, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to assist Ghanaians seeking to return home.
The High Commission did not provide further details on the number of persons involved or the timeline for their departure, but assured that the exercise is steadily being carried out.
The Mission on May 26 facilitated the evacuation of Ghanaians from the country and continues to work with stakeholders to ensure the safety, welfare, and orderly return of nationals who express the desire to come home.
Ghanaians in South Africa seeking consular assistance have been urged to contact the High Commission directly for guidance and updates on the process.
The evacuation follows recent xenophobic attacks against foreigners by some South Africans, which have raised concerns about the safety of migrants in parts of the country.
