GES Flags Viral ‘2026 BECE Results Preparation and School Placement’ Memo As Fake

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has denied and flagged a document circulating on social media and WhatsApp claiming to announce preparations for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results and school placement.
In a statement, the Public Relations Unit of GES said the memo, which bears the heading “IMMEDIATE RELEASE” and is dated July 6, 2026, with reference number GES/HQ/PR/26/138, did not emanate from the Service.
The fake memo claimed that preparations for the release of the 2026 BECE results were underway for 619,989 candidates from 20,390 public and private schools.
It also alleged that 96,578 candidate results were being withheld for investigation and provided a WhatsApp number, 050 744, for “status confirmation.”
The document further outlined a “First Phase” and “Second Phase” for school selection and urged candidates, parents and guardians to submit information via WhatsApp.
GES described all claims in the document as false and urged the public to disregard it.
The Service emphasised that no fees are required for school placement and that all official communication on BECE results and placement will be made through verified GES channels.
“We caution parents, candidates, guardians and the general public to be wary of fraudsters. The GES will not ask for money or personal information via WhatsApp for placement,” the statement said.
The Service advised anyone who has already engaged with the fake number to report to the nearest GES office or police station for assistance.
GES reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and free placement process for all 2026 BECE candidates.
