Fred Achee Sets Bold World Cup Target for Black Stars

Frederick Owusu Amankwah Acheampong, a member of the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has revealed the target set for the Black Stars in anticipation of the upcoming Mundial.

Fred Achee, Chairman of the Black Starlets Management Committee at the just-ended TotalEnergies CAF U17 AFCON in Morocco, spoke to the media at Dragon Park in Cardiff in an interview.

The Black Stars of Ghana are preparing for their World Cup friendly game against Wales, and they wrap up their preparatory games with a match against the Reggae Boys of Jamaica before the start of the Mundial.

Fred Achee was clear and stated unequivocally that the Black Stars’ objective is to progress beyond the group stage.

This ambition was the driving force behind the decision to dismiss Otto Addo and appoint the experienced Carlos Queiroz.

“Our target is to make it out of the knockout stages. If we were only to participate in the three games in the group stages, obviously, we wouldn’t have made the huge changes we made in the Black Stars technical team, so that’s our target,” Achee explained.

Achee stated, “We believe that the coaches understand our target, the coaches understand the target of Ghanaians, the coaches understand the expectations of Ghanaians. It is the reason why they are working so hard to try and put the team into shape before the tournament commences.”

The Black Stars of Ghana’s first game at the World Cup is scheduled for Wednesday, the 17th of June, at the BMO Field in Ontario, Canada, against the Red Tide of Panama.

The Black Stars face off against the Three Lions of England at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, United States, following their friendly match in 2011, and conclude the group stages at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia against the Blazers of Croatia.
