Push For Better Service Conditions and Resources For Personnel- Otumfuo to CDS

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has encouraged the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, to push for better conditions of service for personnel.

Otumfuo underscored the critical role of the Army, Navy and Air Force to the security of the country and called for conscious efforts to motivate personnel.

His Majesty was particular about the living conditions of the personnel of the three forces.

“The Army, Navy and Air Force play critical roles in safeguarding the country against terrorism and all other violence. To some extent, we look up to them in the fight against illegal mining. The security and peace of Ghana are in the hands of the three, and you head over them…Prioritise the conditions of service. Focus on getting them a better residence. Engage the government on this matter to actualise it.”

Otumfuo also called on him to ensure adequate resourcing of the Forces to facilitate their respective mandates.

On this subject, Otumfuo cited the grounding of the country’s Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy (registration number 9G-EXE) in France since March 11, 2025.

“Provide the needed equipment to the three Forces. Recently, we heard that one of the Air Force planes has been grounded elsewhere. Deal with all those developments and provide the needed resources to augment their work.”

The CDS and the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, were at the Manhyia Palace on July 23, 2025, to introduce themselves and seek the blessing of the Asantehene.

Their delegation included Brigadier General KK Kumi, Acting Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Armed Forces, Naval Captain Veronica Arhin and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Central Command, Brigadier General Albert Ogaja.

In further remarks, Otumfuo urged all the personnel of the Forces to synergise their expertise towards offering security to the country.

“All of you are responsible for the security of the country. Collaborate with the leaders of the Forces. Be led by goodwill and unity.”
