Fisheries Minister Tours Inland Fishing Communities Ahead of National Conference

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, will begin a six-day working tour of inland fisheries communities across the country from Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
The tour is aimed at strengthening engagement with stakeholders, assessing key facilities, and gathering firsthand information on the state of the inland fisheries subsector.
According to the Ministry, insights from the exercise will shape discussions at the upcoming Inland Fisheries Conference.
Regions to Be Visited
The Minister will visit selected communities in the Greater Accra, Volta, Oti, Bono East, Savanna, and Ashanti Regions.
During the tour, she is expected to interact with fishers, inspect fisheries infrastructure, and take part in a strategic planning session in Techiman.
Policy Informed by Community Needs
The Ministry says the initiative reflects its commitment to ensuring that the experiences and needs inform policies of inland fishing communities.
Stakeholders and the general public have been encouraged to participate in the engagements.
Inland fisheries play a critical role in food security, employment, and rural livelihoods, particularly along the Volta Lake and other major water bodies.
The tour comes as the sector faces challenges, including declining fish stocks, climate change impacts, and post-harvest losses.
