The General Manager for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region, Engineer David Asamoah has revealed that the stealing of electricity cables in some communities is at a higher rate than last year in the region.

He claims that some robbers pulled down the transformer that served the residents of Ohwim Amanfrom, Abuakwa, and Manso Nkwanta and removed all the copper cables from it. According to him, this is a horrible development that has an impact on the company’s operations.

Speaking with the media he said these communities reported their electrical problems and blackout to the company which revealed this inconvenience.

He said that this nuisance going on in the region needs more attention else it will result in serious blackouts.

The coppers are very expensive since they are used for ornaments and it is the reason behind the stealing of them.

Engineer Asamoah emphasized that there are a lot of meters in the region that are illegally installed by unknown civilians.
He confirmed that those meters can snatch fire disaster easily because it is not in a standard form he urged the public to install legal meters to prevent havoc.
