District-Level Elections Postponed In Some Areas

The District Assembly Election and Unit Committee Election will not take place in some electoral areas in the Ashanti and Eastern regions.

This is according to the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.

It was contained in a statement dated Tuesday, December 19, 2023, announcing that the election was scheduled to take place today in 6,272 electoral areas in 259 districts in the country.

It however, did not specify the areas affected by the development. The EC said the development was due to technical challenges in those districts.

The postponed district-level election will now take place on Thursday, December 21, 2023, the statement signed by the Acting head of Public Affairs at the EC, Michael Boadu noted.

“The Commission wishes to inform the General Public that due to a number of technical challenges, the District Level Elections in some Electoral Areas in the Ashanti and Eastern regions have been rescheduled to Thursday, 21, December 2023. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to residents of the Electoral Areas.”

Meanwhile, the election is actively taking place in most electoral areas in the Ashanti Region.

Observation from the Manhyia Palace, where three polling stations are situated, indicates that patronage has been encouraging.
