Obuasi: Regional Minister Sets Timeline for Completion of New Transformer Installation

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has announced a timeline for the completion of the installation of a new transformer in Obuasi.
Currently, he said the town and its environs are on a temporary fix, which is the reason for the intermittent power disruptions.
He disclosed that a new transformer had been taken to the substation for installation, which will take a couple of weeks to complete.
“New Transformer is in and installation should complete in few week’s time,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
The fire broke out at the Obuasi substation on May 21, 2025, at night, damaging two of the transformers transmitting power from the Ghana Grid Company Limited to the town.
One of the damaged transformers was fixed to support the power supply to parts of the town.
The situation has since plunged residents into darkness, with businesses grappling with the situation.
