UG Triggers Internal Disciplinary Processes Against Gyampo and Domfeh Over TV Altercation

The University of Ghana, Legon, has triggered internal disciplinary processes against two of its staff after they engaged in “unprofessional” conduct during a TV show last weekend.

A TV panel discussion, featuring Professor Ransford Gyampo and Dr George Domfeh, both Senior Members of the University, degenerated into a personal and heated exchange between the two.

In a statement, it said, “Management has, in accordance with the University of Ghana Statutes (2024) and the Code of Conduct for Academic Senior Members (2011), triggered internal processes to review the conduct of the two Senior Members and take necessary disciplinary actions.”

The University announced its expectation of high standards of professionalism, integrity and decorum from all faculty and staff in both public and private engagements.

It emphasised, “Management remains committed to safeguarding the dignity of the University and preserving public confidence in the institution.”

Meanwhile, the two have smoked the peace pipe, acknowledging their faults.

In a Facebook post on Thursday evening, Dr Domfeh said, “Professor Gyampo acknowledged that he regrets his commentary against my person, which was distasteful and defamatory, especially considering our longstanding collegial relationship. I, in turn, admitted that I went so hard with my comments about his person in response to his position on my commentary, we have sincerely apologised to each other.”

He said they had agreed to put the incident behind them and “move forward with renewed respect for each other”.

“As public intellectuals, we remain committed to engaging in serious national discourse without allowing disagreements to degenerate into personal animosity.”
