Cambodia Ends Visa Waiver for Ghanaians and Other Africans, Sets May 31 Deadline to Exit

The Royal Government of Cambodia has announced the end of its visa waiver arrangement for African nationals, including Ghanaians, effective May 31, 2026.

In a notice issued through the General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior, Phnom Penh said the waiver granted to citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda and other African countries will officially expire at the end of May.

Under the new directive, all foreign nationals whose fines have been cleared must leave Cambodia on or before May 31, 2026.

Anyone found in the country from June 1, 2026, will be arrested at the airport or at any location, the notice stated.

Offenders will face a jail term of two years and a penalty of US$58,000 before being allowed to leave Cambodia, it warned.

The Cambodia Police will also begin arresting foreigners at any hideout from June 1, 2026, for overstaying and will hand them over to immigration authorities for legal action.

“The Royal Government of Cambodia will not tolerate any violation of our immigration laws,” the statement said, urging all affected nationals to comply strictly with the notice.
