Bawumia Meets Idris Elba Over Creative Arts Industry

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has convened a meeting with British actor Idris Elba over the creative arts industry of Ghana and Africa.

The meeting held at the Office of Dr Bawumia at the Jubilee House was on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

In a Facebook post, Dr Bawumia said they held a “meaningful” dialogue on expanding the creative arts economy of Africa with a focus on financial inclusion bringing Ghana into the global financial ecosystem.

“Many African industry players are locked out of the global payments ecosystem and we therefore discussed the proposed implementation of a new system leveraging blockchain technology to assist them and ensure that they get paid for their music and arts no matter where in the world it is used commercially.”

According to him, a digital payments system will be launched in Ghana later this year.

“My thanks to Idris Elba for his commitment to the development of the African creative arts economy,” he added.

The “Beast of No Nation” actor was last seen in Ghana exactly a year ago during which he met key stakeholders including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over policies to bring to life the film-making industry in Ghana.

He presented documented proposed policies to bring about realization of the objective.
