Power Outage Hits National Grid as GRIDCo Reports System Disturbance

The Ghana Grid Company Ltd. says the National Interconnected Transmission System experienced a power system disturbance in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, 2026, resulting in an interruption of electricity supply in parts of the country.

In a press statement, GRIDCo said the disturbance occurred at approximately 3:11 a.m. and led to the simultaneous tripping of some generating plants across the national power system.

“GRIDCo has activated its established system restoration procedures. Our engineers and system operators are working continuously, in close collaboration with power sector stakeholders, to restore power within the shortest time possible without compromising safety,” the statement said.

The company added that a comprehensive technical investigation has commenced to determine the precise cause of the system event.

GRIDCo apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for public patience as it works to restore supply.

“We remain fully committed to restoring supply to all affected customers as quickly and safely as possible and will provide further updates as more information becomes available,” it stated.
