NPP Receives Report on Cause of Woeful 2024 Elections Defeat

The National Executive Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has received a report on the cause of the party’s unprecedented defeat in the 2024 General Elections.

The Election Revision Committee chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Oquaye handed over their findings which stipulated some recommendations to the council on Wednesday during a meeting.

This was confirmed in a press statement on April 17 by the NPP.

“The NPP wishes to bring to the attention of its members and the general public that the Prof. Oquaye of Election Revision Committee has submitted its Report to the Party. The Report was submitted to the Party’s National Council at a meeting held on Wednesday. April 16, 2025.”

The party intends to peruse the report and implement the recommendations in its best interest.

Meanwhile, it noted that the submission of the Review Report has invariably necessitated the need for the Party to amend some provisions of the Party Constitution.

As such, a nine-member committee has been established to work towards the amendment whose report will be reviewed at an Extraordinary National Annual Delegates Conference in July.

“The Party shall hold an Extraordinary National Annual Delegates Conference in the month of July to consider the report of the Constitutional Amendment Committee which shall be tabled before the Conference in the form of amendment motions for approval or otherwise.”

Data from the Electoral Commission on the 2024 Presidential election showed that the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama secured 6,591,790 votes, representing 56.42 per cent of valid votes cast.

His closest competitor, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 4,877,611 votes, accounting for 41.75 per cent.

Meanwhile, in the Parliamentary elections, the NPP secured only 89 seats.
