Akufo-Addo To Re-open Land Borders; Reports

Reports indicate that President Akufo-Addo will soon announce the re-opening of Ghana’s land borders after two years of closure.

The decision was reportedly taken at the ongoing Cabinet retreat chaired by the president at Peduase.

In March 2020, President Akufo-Addo announced the closure of all the country’s borders; land and air, but the airspace was released that same year, leaving out the land borders.

Calls from affected communities and the minority intensified for the land borders to be re-opened in 2021 and 2022.

Residents staged demonstrations to lay bare, the hardships they were plunged into due to the closure of the borders.

The Minority in parliament on the other hand, on different occasions, drew the President’s attention to the situation, with a recent press conference held earlier this week.
