Akufo-Addo Accepts Agric Minister Resignation

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister for Food and Agriculture.

The now-outgoing Minister submitted his resignation letter to the President on Tuesday, January 10, 2022, at the Jubilee House.

Although Afriyie Akoto has relayed plans to aspire in the presidential election of the party in time past, he is yet to confirm if that is accounting for his premature resignation.

He had planned to resign in March this year, it is reported.

Reports say the Council of Elders of the NPP has ordered all presidential aspirants to resign immediately to ensure stable governance.

A day after handing over his letter, Afiriyie Akoto expressed his gratitude to the President for the mandate.

“It has been a great honour and privilege to serve as the Cabinet Minister in charge of Food and Agriculture in the last 5 years. I express my sincere gratitude to the President His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo for the confidence reposed in me to lead the agriculture industry to revamp and address the declining growth of the sector.

“Under the leadership of the Akufo-Addo led administration, I implemented and championed major agricultural intervention programmes which has led to the growth of the sector over the years. I thank the President for accepting my resignation. To the prestigious New Patriotic Party, thank you for contributing to the advancement of the agricultural sector during my tenure as Minister”, he posted on Facebook.

In a press release the Director of Communication at the Jubilee House, Eugene Arhin said, “the President of Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has accepted the resignation from office of Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto as Minister for Food and Agriculture”.

He said the President conveyed his sincere gratitude to Afriyie Akoto for his services to the government and the nation and wished him the best of luck in his future endeavours after taking his resignation letter.

Meanwhile, Mavis Hawa Koomson has been appointed as the caretaker Minister.
