Emena Cemetery Fumigated Following Desecration

Hon. Abraham Kwame Antwi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has provided an update on the situation regarding the destruction of the Emena cemetery. In an interview on Nkwantannanso with George Adjei on July 11, he confirmed that the cemetery has been fumigated as a response to the desecration that occurred.

However, the MCE stated that the skeletons have not yet been touched due to customs and traditions.

“We haven’t touched the skeletons. We are waiting for the traditional authorities to perform the necessary rites before we proceed to clear the skeletons and cover the graves,” he said

Additionally, the police have issued a warning to the private developer involved in the destruction, instructing her to stay away from the land.

The youth in the community have also been urged to remain calm in light of the situation.

On July 6, it was reported that a private developer had destroyed the only cemetery in Emena, a community in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

This incident has caused significant dissatisfaction among the residents, who feel that their sacred graveyard has been desecrated.
