Adum Fire: Asantehene Sanctions Stakeholders Meeting

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has sanctioned a meeting among the relevant stakeholders in the Adum fire incident.
The Adum fire was one of the principal issues that featured on the agenda of the Asanteman Council at a meeting on Monday, May 5, 2025.
It came up while Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, Asafohene, was briefing Otumfuo on his stewardship over Kumasi during his trip abroad.
“A few days after Otumfuo left the country, we recorded a devastating fire at Adum that ravaged tens of shops and their contents, with millions of cedis lost.
“I mobilized chiefs in Kumasi, and together with the Regional Minister, we engaged the traders twice and assured them that we would report to you on your return,” he told the linguists of the Asantehene to be duly relayed.
In response, Otumfuo directed that the Asafohene hold a stakeholders meeting.
The meeting, His Majesty stated, must include the Lands Commission, Town Planning authorities, the Ghana National Fire Service, the leaders of the traders, and the Regional Minister.
“The meeting must review the cause of the fire, after which we will make a suitable decision.”
The fire engulfed commercial storey buildings at Adum PZ in Kumasi’s Central District on Friday, March 21, consuming goods worth millions of cedis.
It took firefighters three days to completely extinguish the flames.
