Push For Better Conditions of Service for Officers; Asantehene to IGP

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has challenged the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Yohuno, to push for better conditions of service for officers.

The King acknowledges that the conditions of service of Ghanaian police officers are unattractive, compounded by inadequate equipment to support their operations.

Comparing and contrasting the conditions of law enforcement agencies in advanced countries to those in Ghana, His Majesty affirmed the need for a review.

He challenged the IGP to make the subject a priority.

“Compared to foreign policing, where resources and conditions of service are on point, ours is difficult, but in your tenure, make sure you cause change and make the profession attractive and officers happy.”

Regardless of circumstances, Otumfuo exhorted officers to be patriotic and committed.

“I know the conditions of service are not very ideal, but remember that policing is patriotism. If you are patriotic and love the profession, you will work hard regardless.”
