Absentee MPs: Henry Quartey Blames Ill Health For Absence

Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, has taken his turn before the Privileges Committee of Parliament over his absence from Parliamentary sittings without permission for fifteen sitting days in the First Meeting of the Second Session of the 8th Parliament.

He appeared before the committee yesterday, July 6, 2022.

He told the Committee that his absence was to enable him to undergo knee surgery.

His appearance follows that of his colleague absentee legislator, Kennedy Agyapong, on June 15, 2022.

The two male lawmakers were referred together with Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya Constituency to the Privileges Committee over their absenteeism on April 5, 2022, by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

So far, Henry Quartey and Kennedy Agyapong have made appearances before the Committee.

The Committee will conclude their report on July 13, 2022, and present it to the Speaker.
