Ablakwa Commends Akufo-Addo For Using Presidential Jet For Recent Trips

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for saving the country some GHC6 million in opting for the Presidential jet over expensive flights during his recent trips.

According to the lawmaker, the President used the country’s Dassault Falcon 900 on his recent trips to Ethiopia and Germany.

That, he said, has saved the country GHC6.5 million.

“By this commendable conduct and having regard for the current luxury VIP jet market rate, the government has saved the suffering Ghanaian taxpayers €480,000 (GHC6.5 million) by avoiding his favourite profligate luxury flight.”

Ablakwa in the past has alleged and condemned the President for using expensive flights for his trips at the expense of Ghanaians.

In June 2022, Ablakwa alleged that GHC34 million had been spent on the president’s trips in chartered jets in 13 months.

The government most often failed to respond to the allegations and when it did, it often confirmed it.

Once in parliament, the government said the President’s reason for opting for expensive jets other than the Presidential jet was under classified information.

Following his latest trips to Ethiopia for the African Union meetings and to Germany for the Munich Security Conference, Ablakwa said the entire 17 hours 53 minutes flight time spent by the President was in the State’s jet.

The President returned to Ghana on Sunday night and Ablakwa hopes he sticks to using the jet till he leaves office.
