A/R: GWCL to Halt Water Supply For Three Days

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced a three-day suspension of water supply in parts of the Ashanti Region effective March 17.
The Company will shut down the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to make way for the installation of new interconnection pipelines and foot valves at the Suame roundabout vantage point.
This exercise will affect communities including Offinso, the entire Kumasi Metropolis, and its environs.
In a statement issued on March 11, it stated that the temporary shutdown was necessary to boost the water supply to the metropolis.
“Whilst we appreciate the inconvenience this may cause, GWL assures the public that our dedicated team of Engineers will work diligently within the estimated time frame to restore water supply to the affected communities.
“This measure is in line with GWL’s commitment to enhance the water supply capacity from the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to improve water service delivery, and address the supply challenges in the metropolis.”
Residents have, therefore, been encouraged to store up adequate water to cover the scheduled period of the exercise.
“Management wishes to inform all essential service providers, especially the hospitals and schools in the area, to ensure they have adequate storage for the period.”
Meanwhile, it apologised for the inconvenience.
