Education Ministry Announces Delivery of over 3,000 Desks to Address Shortage at Labone SHS

The Ministry of Education says it is making a move to address the reported shortage of desks at Labone Senior High School in Accra.
Following a report on the shortage, which compelled some freshers to sit on the floor or use dining hall benches, the Ministry issued a statement saying it was acting on a request by the school to provide over 3,000 mono desks.
It explained that the school formally requested 3,282 mono desks through the Ghana Education Service (GES), which, according to the ministry, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has approved and allocated the full quantity, with delivery scheduled to be completed by the close of Monday, November 24, 2025.
“This timely intervention aligns with the Ministry’s ongoing nationwide programme to procure 200,000 mono desks for 100 double-track senior high schools that require priority support as they transition into the single-track system,” the statement read.
The initiative aims to systematically and sustainably close furniture gaps across all second-cycle institutions.
The Ministry reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe, supportive, and conducive learning environment for students.
It also pledged continued collaboration with GES, GETFund, and other partners to provide the infrastructure needed to enhance teaching and learning nationwide.
