A/R: Barekese Water Plant to Shut Down From June 9

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to carry out critical repair works on the transmission pipeline.
The shutdown will begin at 6:00 am on Tuesday, 9th June 2026, and end at 6:00 am on Thursday, 11th June 2026, affecting water supply to the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and adjoining communities.
In a press release, the Management of GWL’s Ashanti Region stated that the repairs are essential to protect the pipeline’s integrity and ensure long-term reliability.
“The repair works are critical to safeguard the integrity of the transmission pipeline and ensure its continuous and reliable operation,” part of the statement read.
The company acknowledged the inconvenience the two-day shutdown may cause and urged customers to prepare in advance.
“Management of Ghana Water Limited regrets any inconvenience that may result from this critical maintenance exercise and advises customers to store adequate water for use during the shutdown period,” the release added.
GWL reassured the public that water production and supply would resume immediately after the repairs are completed. The company also expressed appreciation for customers’ understanding and cooperation as it works to improve service delivery.
