Sexual Misconduct: Revoke Licence of Assistant KNUST Headmaster When Found Culpable-  Eduwatch

Education think tank Eduwatch has called for the revocation of the teaching licence of the Assistant Headmaster of KNUST Senior High School, Mr Charles Akwasi Aidoo, when found culpable in his alleged sexual misconduct with a student.

It argued that his continued presence in the teaching profession poses a grave risk to the safety of girls in our schools.

“Where culpability is established, we call on the National Teaching Council to withdraw the teaching licence of the said officer permanently.”

It said this as it condemned the alleged action of the head teacher, which was captured and has since gone viral.

“Eduwatch strongly condemns the reported act of sexual misconduct by the Assistant Headmaster of KNUST Senior High School against a female student.”

It affirmed that such behaviour is reprehensible, undermines the sanctity of the school environment, and threatens the safety and dignity of learners, particularly girls, who are already vulnerable to various forms of sexual violence.

It emphasised that schools must remain safe spaces where children are protected, nurtured, and empowered to learn without fear of abuse.

It further commended the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the prompt decision to remove the officer from office and bar him from the school premises pending investigations.

“We urge the GES Headquarters and the Regional Directorate to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation into the school.”

It also suggested that the probe be extended to ascertain the broader nature of relationships between male staff and female learners within the institution, to prevent any systemic risks of sexual exploitation.

It added, “Eduwatch reaffirms its commitment to advocating for stronger accountability mechanisms within Ghana’s education system to deter sexual violence and protect learners.

“We call on the Ministry of Education and GES to intensify efforts at enforcing safeguarding policies and ensuring that every child has access to a safe learning environment.”
