5 Eswatini Students Earn Scholarships to Pursue Petroleum Engineering at KNUST

Through the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, fully funded scholarship packages have been awarded to five emaSwati to pursue Petroleum Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The Vice Chancellor of the KNUST, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson, made the disclosure during the 58th Special Congregation on June 28, 2025.

The scholarships will benefit deserving students in the southern African country, she said as she hailed the leadership of the Asantehene.

According to her, the award is in honour of the visiting Monarch of Eswatini, His Majesty Mswati III, and in support of the petroleum industry of his country.

“Profound gratitude to Nana Chancellor whose visionary leadership has culminated in the award of prestigious scholarships through the Mastercard Foundation to five deserving students from the Kingdom of Eswatini to honour his good friend (King Mswati III) to pursue Petroleum Engineering at the KNUST in support of their fairly young petroleum industry.”

This will bring the number of emaSwati at the KNUST to 18.

In his speech, the visiting Monarch expressed his delight at how the institution had become home to students from his Kingdom.

“This is heartwarming as we’re confident that they’re exposed to excellent learning experiences and acquiring the best education.”

His Majesty further charged the students to lift up the banner of their country and represent it well.

“Be respectful and responsible, that’s how we’re known wherever we are. Make sure to learn what you came for here and also discover the beautiful traditions and culture of the Ghanaian community as you exchange experiences amongst them.”
