Atwima Bawku Baapanin Fined for Customary Protocol Breach

Atwima Bawku Baapanin, Obaapanin Serwaa Adomtie, has found herself on the wrong side of tradition after violating protocol regarding the use of royal regalia during a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on Monday.
While paying homage to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, alongside various traditional authorities present at the meeting, her outfit attracted immediate attention.
She was wearing the two-piece traditional cloth reserved for female traditional rulers, along with traditional footwear (kyawkyaw).
By tradition, she was required to remove her footwear before appearing before His Majesty, as her stool position did not accord her the privilege of wearing footwear in his presence.
Her oversight was noticed immediately, leading to her prompt recall before the council. She was ordered to remove her footwear and was subsequently fined four rams.
“You wore slippers and had the audacity to even bring them before Otumfuo,” stated Otumfuo Kyeame Baffour Kantankrakyi, adding that the sanction would serve as a deterrent to others.
