Data Protection Commission Invites Institutions To Apply For Accreditation To Train Certified Supervisors

The Data Protection Commission (DPC) has opened applications for eligible institutions seeking accreditation to deliver training for Certified Data Protection Supervisors (CDPS) in Ghana.

In an important notice, the Commission said it is inviting professional institutions to apply to become DPC-accredited CDPS training providers and to deliver training in accordance with its approved requirements and standards.

The accreditation is in line with Section 3(a) of the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), which mandates the Commission to accredit institutions to train CDPS to implement appropriate, reasonable, technical and organizational measures to remain compliant with Section 28 of the Act.

Applications must be submitted in three copies (1 original, 2 copies) and delivered to the Reception of the Commission not later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, 29th August, 2026.

Eligibility Requirements
Interested institutions must meet at least the following minimum requirements:

1. Be a registered Data Controller under the business registration laws of Ghana.
2. Hold a valid registration certificate from the DPC.
3. Have appointed and trained a Certified Data Protection Supervisor in accordance with the Act.
4. Have submitted at least one compliance report indicating suitable compliance status.
5. Possess five years’ minimum work experience in a related field such as IT, HR, Legal Audit, Risk Management and Compliance, Data Governance, etc.
6. Train at least two Ghana DP Act 843 Certified Data Protection Supervisors with requisite experience to become Data Protection Practitioners for delivery of the training.
7. Nominated CDPS must possess a minimum of three years professional experience in Data Protection, Compliance, Data Governance or a closely related field.
8. Demonstrate ability to develop and/or assist Data Controllers to draft Data Protection Impact Assessment of projects.
9. Demonstrate ability to develop a Data Protection Compliance Schedule for institutions.
10. Possess demonstrable knowledge in international treaties/conventions and regulations on Data Protection.

Application Process
Applicants must go through a nine-step process including responding to the Call for Expression of Interest, completing the accreditation criteria and application forms, assessment of trainers, site visit/inspection of training facility by the DPC, signing of Accreditation Agreement and orientation.
