Ghana Medical Trust Fund Explores Partnership to Locally Manufacture Critical Medicines

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), also known as MahamaCares, is exploring a strategic partnership with Atlantic Lifesciences Limited and the PharmaNova Group.

The Fund seeks to locally manufacture anti-cancer, critical cardiovascular, and immunosuppressant medicines.

The move is aimed at reducing the high cost of imported medicines, strengthening local pharmaceutical production and enabling the Trust Fund to support more Ghanaians who require specialized healthcare.

Led by its Administrator, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the GMTF team toured the facilities of Atlantic Lifesciences Limited as discussions continue on practical and sustainable ways to make essential medicines more accessible and affordable for patients under the Fund.

The partnership, when finalised, is expected to boost Ghana’s pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and significantly lower treatment costs for patients battling cancer, heart-related conditions and other chronic diseases requiring immunosuppressant therapy.
