List of 41 Visa-Free Destinations For Ordinary Ghanaian Passport Holders

Ghana currently has visa waiver agreements covering 60 countries for all passport categories.

Of these, 41 destinations specifically allow ordinary Ghanaian passport holders to travel without a visa, former Media Relations Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fred Duhoe, has disclosed.

In a Facebook post, Mr Duhoe listed the countries where holders of Ghana’s ordinary passport can travel visa-free, distinguishing between non-ECOWAS countries and ECOWAS member states.

According to the list, 28 non-ECOWAS countries offer visa-free access to ordinary Ghanaian passport holders. These include Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Dominica, Eswatini, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya, St. Kitts and Nevis, Lesotho, Mozambique, Morocco, Maldives, Mauritius, Malawi, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Singapore, Sao Tome and Principe, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

He noted that most of the non-ECOWAS destinations offer a 90-day stay, with the exception of Maldives and Zambia, which allow 30 days, and Grenada, which allows 30 days.

He added that for Morocco, Ghanaian citizens must obtain a free Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) online, while for the United Arab Emirates, visas are issued at the UAE Embassy in Accra upon payment of a fee.

For ECOWAS member states, he listed 13 countries where Ghanaians can travel visa-free for 90 days. They are Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

The list comes days after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced new visa waiver arrangements with the Maldives, Zambia and Antigua and Barbuda, adding to Ghana’s growing number of visa-free travel destinations.
