Ghana Medical Trust Fund Engages SIGA Ahead of Maiden September NCD Awareness Month

The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, and her team have met with the leadership of the State Interests and Governance Authority, SIGA, to explore partnership opportunities ahead of the Fund’s maiden September Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Awareness Month.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Trust Fund to share progress made during its first year of operations, as well as ongoing efforts to expand access to specialised care for people living with non-communicable diseases across the country.
The delegation also presented plans for the September NCD Awareness Month, a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness of the growing burden of NCDs in Ghana and their far-reaching impact on individuals, families, the healthcare system, and national productivity.
The team was warmly received by the Director-General of SIGA, Professor Michael Kpessa-Whyte, and his management, who expressed strong interest in the work and vision of the Trust Fund.
Both institutions discussed areas of collaboration to amplify public education and mobilise support for NCD prevention and care.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund said the engagement marks an important step towards building the partnerships needed to strengthen the campaign and drive national action in response to the rising burden of non-communicable diseases.
The Fund, established to strengthen care for chronic non-communicable diseases, says its focus remains on restoring possibilities for patients through improved access, education and support systems.
