Fisheries Ministry Engages Stakeholders to Find Solutions to Premix Fuel Bottlenecks

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, has called for urgent and practical solutions to existing bottlenecks in the supply and distribution of premix fuel to fishing communities.

The Minister made the call at a stakeholder engagement held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the Ministry’s Conference Room.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders across the premix fuel value chain, including representatives of the National Premix Fuel Secretariat, Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, Tema Oil Refinery, Ghana National Gas Company Ltd, Timeless Oil, Maranatha Oil Ltd, Vihama Energy, Globex Energy, Alfa Petro and Med Petroleum.

The primary focus of the engagement was to identify practical solutions to the existing bottlenecks affecting the availability, supply and distribution of premix fuel, and to strengthen coordination among the institutions and industry players responsible for the various stages of the supply chain.

Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Emelia Arthur stressed that the engagement must lead to concrete solutions to the challenges confronting the premix fuel supply chain, with the ultimate objective of ensuring that premix fuel is available at landing beaches when needed by fishers.

Stakeholders examined key challenges affecting the supply chain, including fuel accessibility and availability, allocation and distribution constraints, tracking and monitoring gaps, under-recovery, and other operational bottlenecks.

The Minister urged stakeholders to work collaboratively to address these challenges and called for clear allocation timelines, improved supply planning, stronger tracking and monitoring systems, and more effective coordination of blending, supply and distribution processes.

She emphasised the need to move from identifying problems to implementing timely, accountable and sustainable solutions that will improve the reliability of premix fuel supply to fishing communities.

The engagement forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to address challenges within the premix fuel supply chain, strengthen stakeholder coordination and improve service delivery to Ghana’s fishing communities.
