Norway delivered a dominant performance as they defeated Iraq 4-1 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Group I clash at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Monday night.
The European side showcased their attacking firepower, with Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland leading the charge and was clinical in front of goal, netting twice to put Norway firmly in control.
His clinical finishing combined with solid contributions from teammates made it a difficult evening for the Iraqi defence. Defender Leo Østigård also got on the scoresheet, adding to Norway’s dominance in what was a comprehensive victory.
Iraq managed to pull one back through star striker Aymen Hussein, who scored the consolation goal for the Lions of Mesopotamia. Despite the goal giving them brief hope, it was not enough to halt Norway’s momentum as the Scandinavians remained in command throughout the contest.
The result highlights Norway’s strength in the group while leaving Iraq with plenty of work to do if they hope to progress from the group.
In the other Group I fixture, France defeated Senegal 3-1 in another entertaining clash.
Iraq will face France next on June 22 at Lincoln Financial Field, while Norway take on Senegal on June 23 at MetLife Stadium.
