The Management, technical team, playing body, supporters and allies of Asante Kotoko SC have held a vigil in memory of ardent supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley who was murdered on a match day in the Bono Region.

The vigil was held on Sunday, February 9, 2025- exactly a week after he met his untimely death at Nsoatre after being stabbed at the end of a game between Kotoko and Nsoatreman SC.

The solemn vigil witnessed the attendance of not just fans of Kotoko but also supporters of fierce rivals Hearts of Oak.

Standing united with placards and lighted candles, they paid respects to the departed soul at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, firmly holding onto their entrenched demand for justice to be served.

One of the captivating scenes captured by a lens at the event shed light on right-back Emmanuel Kotei- who recently underwent surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament tear- in crutches and supported by other people matching alongside the grieving crowd.

Also present were the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of Kotoko, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah, James Akwasi Appiah, a Member of the IMC, Prosper Narteh Ogum, Head Coach and others.

In a speech, Nana Apinkra urged supporters who were considering taking the law into their hands to desist, assuring them that the police were capable of delivering the justice they were all hungry for.

“Today is exactly a week since Pooley lost his life. The case is now with the police. The IGP has promised to find justice for us. It’s now a week. Let us leave everything to the law enforcement agencies for the law to take its full rigours. We will not back down in our quest for justice.”

He urged persons with any information that could assist in police investigations to take it to the Club’s secretariat where a temporary CID office has been established for the purpose.

He also disclosed they had the unflinching support of the Asantehene- the Patron of the Club.
“Otumfuo is firmly behind us. He is fully aware of this.”
So far six persons have been arrested in connection with the murder.
