164 “Illegal Miners” Arrested

One hundred and sixty-four (164) suspected illegal miners have been arrested by the Operation Halt II taskforce.

The suspects were arrested at Anyinam and Mampong in the Eastern region, according to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

They were rounded up during the task force’s swoop in the communities on September 15, 2022, the Ministry said.

The suspects who include five females are made up of nationals from Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, and Ivory Coast.

Addressing the media, a deputy Minister for the Ministry commended the team for the work done and cautioned persons engaged in the act to desist.

The swoop forms part of government’s rejuvenated and renewed fight against illegal Mining, the Ministry said.
