15,000 Students Receive Disbursements Under “No Fees Stress” Policy

According to the Jubilee House, about 15,000 students have received disbursements under the yet-to-be-launched “No Fees Stress” policy introduced by the Mahama administration.

The remaining students are set to receive theirs after verification, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced on Thursday.

“About 15,000 students have received disbursements under the policy. Remaining students will receive payments shortly after verification.”

Meanwhile, President Mahama will officially launch the policy later today in Koforidua.

In May 2025, Felix said 57,327 students had accessed the application portal.

The No Academic Fee initiative was initiated by the current government for first-year students of public tertiary institutions to ease the burden on families and expand access to higher education.

In an address on May 7, President John Dramani Mahama said ¢452,940,012 had been allocated for the payment of academic facility user fees for 156,294 first-year students in public tertiary institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year.

He noted that GETFund had also been instructed to pay the fees directly to the tertiary institutions, ensuring timely disbursement.

“The No Fees Stress application portal has been developed and is now live for first-year students to register and authenticate their eligibility for this government funding,” he noted.

Meanwhile, he announced free tertiary education for persons with disabilities, budget allocation for beneficiary students, he said, had been captured in the 2025 Budget statement.

“The Minister for Education has made relevant data available for GETFund so that they can prepare for the payment for the 2025-2026 academic year.”
