NPP Prepares for Court Over Ablekuma North Election Rerun

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to run to court after the Electoral Commission (EC) decided to rerun the Ablekuma North election in 19 polling stations.

The notice was served on July 3, 2025, by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, during a press conference.

In his address, he disputed the claim by the EC that both the NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC) agreed to the rerun exercise during their meeting on Tuesday.

He stated their party was represented by Evans Nimako, Director of Research and Elections and Ebenezer Nartey, former MP for Ablekuma Central.

According to him, the two reps fiercely opposed the position of the Electoral Commission.

“So it cannot be that after extensive discussion, the EC is painting a picture as if they agreed to their roadmap.”

He further urged the EC to uphold the integrity of the institution, saying it was a respectable arm.

The EC has set July 11, 2025, to conduct a rerun in 19 polling stations in the constituency.

The Commission in a statement explained that the 19 scanned Polling Station results used for the collation were not verified by the Presiding Officers responsible for those Polling Stations.

“It is instructive to note that, the Commission was able to secure the Presiding Officers’ verification and confirmation for 18 scanned Polling Station results – Agents of both parties also approved same. A rerun will therefore not be held in those Polling Stations.”
