The occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has called out the Ashanti Regional Members of Parliament for neglecting the developmental needs of the region.
He observes that the Ashanti Regional Caucus which is made of 47 legislators have left their constituencies dejected with their concentration only on the capital city, Accra.
When he had the opportunity to meet most of them at the launch of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Friday, November 10, His Majesty reminded them about their responsibilities and where they lie.
“Turn your attention here. It appears Accra is taking up your attention,” he stated as the crowd hailed in approval.
“Your honour will emanate from things you do here,” he told them.
Many have decried the lack of visible and completed developmental projects in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The worrying state sparked a series of press conferences and agitations against the MPs last year.
The Youth in Bantama, in June 2022 gave legislators in the region a week ultimatum to show the number of developmental projects completed.
They criticized the MPs for failing to lobby for projects and complete the same, citing the Sofoline interchange, the Suame interchange, the airport roundabout flyover, and others.
At the height of these frustrations, angry residents of Suame threw items at their legislator, Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and hooted at him, over the poor road network in the area when he went on a tour once.
Members of Parliament who attended the Heal KATH Launch included the Asawase MP, Hon Muntaka Mubarak, Banatama MP, Hon Francis Asenso Boakye, Nhiaeso MP, Hon Stephen Amoah, Subin MP, Hon Eugene Antwi, Atwima Nwabiagya South MP, Emmanuel Agyei Ahwere and Nsuta-Kwaman-Beposo MP, Adelaide Yaa Agyeiwaa Ntim.
