Your 27-Year Service Has Made Ghana Stronger, More Peaceful – Mahama to Otumfuo

President John Dramani Mahama has credited Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II with strengthening Ghana and sustaining its peace over the past 27 years.

The message was delivered on his behalf at the ‘World-Meets-in-Ghana Executive Dinner Ball’ held on April 24, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace to mark Otumfuo’s 27th enstoolment anniversary.

The speech, read by Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, stated that the Asantehene’s service is attested by the prevailing tranquility in the nation.

He cited His Majesty’s role and interventions in the Dagbon and Bawku chieftaincy disputes.

“When the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis threatened peace in Ghana, Your Majesty stepped forward. With patience, moral authority, and tireless dedication, the mediation process that Your Majesty led resulted in the historic enskinment of the Ya-Na in January 2019, and this restored peace to Dagbon after decades of conflict,” the statement read.

“When Bawku threatened to become a national security crisis, Ghana once again turned to Your Majesty. Over months, Your Majesty convened the feuding parties here at Manhyia Palace. With the same calm, focus, and dedication, you refused to give up on peace for the sake of Ghana.”

He reechoed his longstanding conviction that Otumfuo ‘does not belong to Asantes alone. He is a national asset.’

“On behalf of President John Dramami Mahama, the government and the people of Ghana, we say to your royal majesty, thank you for 27 years of Service that has made Ghana stronger, more peaceful and prouder.”

The occasion was graced by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, businessman Sir Sam Jonah, the Olu of Warri Kingdom in Nigeria, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, and his wife, Her Royal Highness Olori Atuwatse III.

Also present were Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama, politician Alan Kyerematen, Council of State member Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, and Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene.
