World Bank, Ghana, and ECOWAS to Host West Africa Rice Investment Roundtable in Accra

The World Bank, in partnership with the Government of Ghana and the ECOWAS Commission, will convene the West Africa Rice Investment Roundtable in Accra on 2nd June 2026.

The high-level meeting will be held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra from June 2 to 3 and is expected to bring together regional leaders, development partners, and private investors.

Expected at the event are President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, President of ECOWAS Commission, OMar Alieu Touray and Vice President for Planet World Bank, Guangzhe Chen.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the roundtable aims to mobilise financial and partnership commitments to accelerate the implementation of the Regional Rice Roadmap for 2025-2035.

The roadmap is designed to boost rice production, reduce import dependence, and strengthen food security across West Africa by scaling up investment in the rice value chain.

The organisers say the event will provide a platform for governments and investors to align on financing, policy, and technical support needed to drive the sector’s transformation.

Rice remains a staple across the region, with demand outpacing local production and leading to a heavy import bill for many ECOWAS member states.
