I Reported His Abuse Countless Times to Police to No Avail- Wife of ‘Violent’ Ofankor Man
The wife of the arrested viral ‘violent’ Ofankor husband says his frequent physical abuse was reported to the police countless times to no avail.
“I knew men are disciplined by police in cases of violence and then compelled to sign a bond to be of good conduct, but that wasn’t my case.”
Recalling one of the incidents which she reported to the Tesano Police Station, she said suspect John Odartey Lamptey, accused her of infidelity and subjected her to torture.
“He stripped me naked, inserted pepper in my private parts and had sex with me,” she recounted to NDA in a video interview posted on November 19, 2025.
The victim said she immediately filed a complaint with the Tesano Police Station with her gathered evidence; however, officers rubbished the case as a marital affair, urging her to exercise patience.
She said she decided not to return to the house with the man and lodged with a friend.
“My husband threatened my friend to sack me, so I borrowed GHC200 to leave Accra, unaware of where I would go,” she recollected, adding that she went to her hometown in the Volta Region.
Her return to Accra led to the recent abuse, which went viral, in which she appeared naked, seated on the compound of their home, while her husband flogged her with canes.
She explained that she returned after she received a call from the man to the effect that one of their children had taken ill.
She confirmed that Odartey is frequently violent towards her as she recounted how he pulled her braided hair, leaving her with bruises on another occasion.
The woman is now seeking the assistance of the public to take over custody of the two kids they share.
“Help me take back my children. One is five and the other two years old. He took custody, and the police watched on. He has refused to let me see them.”
Odartey was arrested by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on November 17, 2025, at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality alongside two of his siblings.
Prior to the arrest, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection issued a statement condemning the incident.
“The Ministry wishes to state that no individual has the right to subject another person to any form of abuse under any circumstances. We strongly condemn this barbaric act in its strongest terms. This act infringes on the victims’ rights, and it’s highly punishable by law.”
It relayed that it had reached out to the Ghana Police Service to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted and justice is served.
It also encouraged eyewitnesses with vital information to assist law enforcement agencies immediately.
