Western Regional Minister Weighs Options In Suing EIB Network

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah is weighing his options against GHOne TV and Star fm, subsidiaries of the EIB Network following their publication that a Minister has collapsed after his driver bolted with his GHC700 million galamsey proceeds.

The Minister says upon reading the brief news story, he finds it to cast innuendo on his person.

“This news alert appears to cast innuendo on my person”, he said, observing that his adversaries are preying on it to “tarnish” his image.

“It is therefore not strange that those who are still bent on tarnishing my hard-won reputation and distract me from executing my official duties in the service to the people of region including my unrelenting fight against illegal mining in the region, have jumped onto this news alert to further their sinister objective”, his statement said.

He also disclosed that he is fit and going about his duties contrary to the report.

Urging Ghanaians to disregard the news, he noted that he is unfazed by efforts to derail him.

EIB network across its platforms on social media posted a flyer housing the news that a Regional Minister had lost consciousness after his driver bolted with proceeds from illegal mining activity.

It said the driver is taking refuge in neighbouring La Cote D’ivoire.

The statement from the Minister comes after several weeks of silence on his alleged involvement in illegal mining activities otherwise known as galamsey, in the country.

He was among the three persons named by the chief of Dompim Pepesa, Nana Nyonwah Panyin IV, to be engaged in illegal mining in the Western Region.

In an interview with JoyNews, a subsidiary of the Multimedia Group, the chief is quoted to have said, “I know not of any company but I know of the very people who are behind the operations of ‘galamsey’ in my area. First and foremost the Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah is involved. The MP for the area, Tarkwa Nsuaem, Honorable George Mireku-Duker is also involved and the MCE, Benjamin Kessie is also involved. have told you I am not going to disclose my arsenals to you.”

Already, Mireku Duker has debunked the allegation and has furthered it by suing the chief and two media networks for the publication.

Kwabena Darko says he “will take appropriate remedial steps under the advisement of my lawyers” toward EIB network.
