Viral Video: National Ambulance Service Rubbishes Fuel Shortage Allegation
The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has reacted to a viral video in which some persons were soliciting funds from passers-by to purchase fuel to convey some accident victims to the hospital.
The video which got Ghanaians distressed was taken at an accident scene along the Cape Coast-Mankessim Highway by a citizen.
In reaction, the NAS confirmed the ambulance captured in the video belongs to the Service, however, it noted that contrary to the video commentary, the vehicle had adequate fuel.
“The said ambulance stationed at Ekumfi had enough fuel before it was dispatched to the accident scene on the 14th of September, 2022.
“It is a routine practice that when a crew of ambulance personnel arrive at an accident scene, they first stabilize the victims before taking them to the hospital. It was in this process of stabilizing the patients that some bystanders captured the scene, did a video commentary and posted the video on social media.
“It can be seen in the video as captured that the EMTs were busily attending to the victims to stabilise them before moving to the hospital and not because the ambulance had run out of fuel”, the NAS said downplaying the allegation.
It added that the Service has not sanctioned the collection of monies by the public.
Nevertheless, it said it has commenced investigations into the circumstances that led to the collection of the money as communicated in the viral video.
